And all manner of grownup misbehavior occurs in "Desperate Housewives,"
a mordant ABC prime-time soap debuting at 8 p.m. Sunday on WGNO-Channel 26.
Among the cul-de-sac capers perpetrated in "Housewives" -- which is, it's
worth noting, the most critically acclaimed series of the new season -- is
a steamy sexual moment between one of the title characters and a teenage boy.
The show's creator, Marc Cherry, heard just one small peep from network
executives about the scene.
"We have her in bed with a young teenage boy, and the network's note was,
'Must she smoke?' " Cherry said during the TV tour. "We had to cut the footage
so you don't see the cigarette as much, and then it was just peachy keen."
