Hatcher returns in weekly series

    Meet Teri Hatcher, domestic diva.

The former star of "Lois & Clark" retreated from the spotlight
in 1997 to raise her baby daughter, bake cookies and attend soccer games.
She's now making a weekly series comeback with "Desperate Housewives"
(debuting 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, WATE, Channel 6), which is garnering
some of the best critical buzz of the fall season.

She plays Susan, a single mom raising a daughter and hoping love will
come her way again. Susan's a bit of a klutz and often paints herself
    into embarrassing situations.

A cross between primetime soap "Knots Landing" and the feature
film "American Beauty," "Housewives" is a dark comedy
launched from a suicide that forces four female neighbors to re-examine
their lives. As one of the four, Hatcher's role brings levity to the proceedings.

The series also stars Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman.

When "Lois & Clark" ended, Hatcher admits she wasn't really
looking for acting opportunities. "The first thing I did after a
year or so was 'Cabaret.' I saw the role on Broadway, and I loved it.
I was so passionate about it," she says.

Hatcher kept a profile on television by peddling Radio Shack in recent years.

But her heart remained at home.

"My mom worked from the time I was 3 months old, and I never wanted
to be that (way) with my own child," Hatcher says. "I did Radio
Shack (commercials) and worked 12 days out of the year.

"I never wanted to be a working mom if I didn't have to be. Being a
parent is a lot of work. It's finances and time."

When her daughter turned 4, Hatcher got the itch to get back into acting.
"I never missed acting up until then," Hatcher says, "but
when I started looking, yes, it was hard to get work.

"I think everything happens for a reason. I never missed the big
parties and the limousines. I could throw all that out the window.

"But I love what I have now. This is a great role for me to be playing
    right now," she said.
