DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
ABC, 9-10 p.m. (starts Oct. 3)
The story: A wonderfully dark and tack-sharp comedy about the
residents of what appears to be a perfect suburban community.
The inside buzz: ABC is known for taking good shows and either
canceling them or moving them to ridiculous time slots. So far series
creator Marc Cherry has no beef with the network. "To be honest, everything
they've done with the show, I've loved," he says. "They gave me the cast I
wanted and Lord knows we're getting more promotion than I've ever gotten for
anything else I've ever done. They're doing everything they possibly can to
make this work."
The verdict: And it deserves to work. Desperate Housewives boast
the fall's most alluring pilot. You'll be left begging for more. Trust me.
