Desperate Housewives headed for China
Aug 16, 2005
The racy US television soap opera Desperate Housewives, which has an almost cult-like fan
following in America and Britain, is about to hit communist China, the industry press said.
The smash-hit show, which tells the tale of the libidinous ladies of fictitious Wisteria Lane will
debut in September on state-run China Central Television's CCTV-8, becoming the only US
series to air in China this year.
The show will debut on the entertainment block Everyday Jiayi, a nightly branded block of
programming that features international dramas and movies, which beams into 180 million
households, according to Hollywood Reporter and Daily Variety.
Desperate Housewives, an American ABC television comedy of suburban shenanigans, is
licensed to more than 150 territories worldwide.
But is was not clear whether any of the steamy dialogue from the sexually-suggestive programme
would be cut from the show before its airing on Chinese airwaves.
